Public Safety Alerts
The Summerville Neighborhood Association neighborhood watch program is an active network of hundreds of people in a small area that refuse to tolerate criminal activity.
Suspicious behavior or crimes in progress are reported to law enforcement, and documented in this section. Alerts are also sent by email and text message.
Update – March 30, 2010
Over the past several weeks, we have implemented a new system to consolidate reports of criminal and suspicious activity in our neighborhood. The system will allow Neighborhood Watch Committee Chair, David Dunagan to enter reports into a searchable archive system, and distribute them quickly through our email list.
We are early in the first phase of implementation, so please excuse the spartan look of the system, and bear with us as we endeavor to improve it. Also, please encourage your neighbors to join the association now (here’s a membership form).
The next phase of this project will allow SNA members with a Twitter account to subscribe to real-time text notifications. We hope to have detailed instructions ready by mid-April. This will allow us to quickly multiply the number of people that can inform law enforcement before criminals have a chance to evade them.
Additionally, we are looking into the possibility of providing automated telephone notifications. The complications and costs associated with this feature are non-trivial, so we are approaching this as a longer-term goal to make sure we are adequately prepared and funded.
We look forward to working with you to keep Summerville safe and secure.
